Paano ito gumagana
How CertRent works in Chicago
CertRent is a free platform that helps Chicago renters build a verified renter profile and share it with landlords through a single, secure link. Instead of emailing pay stubs, bank statements, and PDFs to every listing you apply for, you verify your information once and control who sees it. For Chicago landlords and property managers, CertRent means a cleaner, pre-verified applicant packet, less back-and-forth, and fewer doctored documents to worry about.
Verify yourself
Confirm your identity with a government ID, then securely connect your bank so we can confirm your rent payments and income — read-only, credentials never stored.
Add references
Invite past landlords to vouch for you. We check each one actually owns the building against Cook County property records, so their reference carries real weight.
Share your profile
Send any landlord a private link. They see your verified badges — not your raw bank data. You control it and can turn it off anytime.
Build your credit
Turn on rent reporting and the rent you already pay starts working toward your credit — no new debt, no extra steps.
Mga Madalas Itanong
Is CertRent really free for renters?
Yes. Creating and sharing a verified renter profile is free for renters. CertRent's aim is to reduce duplicate application costs, since Illinois does not cap the application fee a landlord can charge.
Can I use CertRent without a Social Security number?
Yes. CertRent supports ITIN holders and does not require an SSN to build a verified profile.
Will CertRent raise my credit score?
No. CertRent does not promise any credit-score change. It documents your verified identity, income, and rent-payment history so you can present a stronger, honest application and build a track record you control.
Do Chicago landlords have to accept my CertRent profile?
Landlords are not required to use CertRent. But because Illinois does not cap application fees, showing up with a verified profile already in hand is one of the few practical levers you have to avoid paying — and re-paying — to prove the same facts.
Is my bank data safe?
Bank connections are read-only and used only to verify income and payment history. Your information is shared solely through the secure links you choose to generate, and you control who receives them.
Does CertRent replace following the RLTO or Illinois tenant laws?
No. CertRent is an educational verification tool, not legal advice or a compliance service. Landlords and renters should still follow the RLTO (where it applies) and Illinois law governing their lease, deposit, and notice obligations.
