About CertRent in Illinois
CertRent is a free platform that helps renters build one verified profile — identity, bank-confirmed income, and rent-payment history — and share it with landlords through a single, secure link. Instead of re-proving yourself with a fresh stack of pay stubs and bank screenshots at every listing, you verify once and control who sees your record.
About CertRent in Chicago
We started in New York City, expanded to Los Angeles and Dallas-Fort Worth, and have now launched in Chicago. Each market gets the same core platform, but the legal content is written fresh for that place's actual law — Chicago's Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance (RLTO) is genuinely different from New York, California, and Texas law, so our Chicago guides, templates, and tools are authored specifically for the RLTO and Illinois state law, not translated from another market.
Free for renters, free for landlords
Building and sharing a CertRent profile costs nothing for renters. Receiving and reviewing a verified profile costs nothing for landlords and property managers. We built it this way because the value of a verified profile only works if both sides actually use it — a paywall on either end defeats the point.
Market by market
We grow one metro at a time so the legal content behind every guide and template is genuinely accurate for that place, not a generic national summary. Chicago renters and landlords get RLTO- and Illinois-specific resources — citing the Municipal Code of Chicago and Illinois statutes directly — covering the RLTO's owner-occupied exemption, security-deposit interest, the mandatory RLTO summary disclosure, the heat ordinance, and eviction notice requirements.
